Cortica Blanco Tequila
Casa Tequilera de Arandas, S.A. de C.V. (NOM-1499), Arandas, Jalisco
40% ABV
Cortica started as a family run production from a long line of agave growers, having worked with Siete Leguas before the sell-off to Patron and Don Julio. And it probably would have never made it north if not for a chance meeting with the head distiller of Lost Republic, the California whiskey maker, while hanging out down in Jalisco.
The profile is that of a more 90's feel, with unctuous, oily flavors instead of light and bright. Additive-free but there is a weightiness that isn't as common in contemporary tequilas. I really appreciate the line this tequila rides between a throwback style and mindfulness like small, handmade production and being additive-free.
Tasting notes: lemon, sweet minerality, fig leaf, brine, amaretto
