Penelope Barrel Strength Four Grain Bourbon "SB-01" Batch 1
Blended in Castle Rock, Kentucky
74% corn, 16% wheat, 7% rye, and 3% barley
The first batch, not even available at the distillery anymore. A blend of six barrels comprised of three different three-grain mashbills, technically making a four grain bourbon, even if none of the original whiskies had all four grains. Staves are #4 char, the heads #2. Aged at least 46 months. Uncut, unfiltered. This bottling earned a Double Gold from the SF Spirits Competition and a 93 Points from Wine Enthusiast.
Nose of sweet caramel with a hint of maple syrup and candied sweetness, followed by caramel syrup, brown sugar, subtle barrel char, and hints of butterscotch and creme brulee. On the palate, cinnamon, barrel char, and maple syrup come together for a big, sweet, oaky, and spicy show, leaving you with hints of spices and red hots.
While invariably each batch has been tweaked, further accelerating Penelope's rise in collectability, the chance to taste where it all started from is unique. Buy a bottle to bunker or to compare to the latest batch.
