Patron Anejo Sherry Cask Finish
Patrón Spirits Mexico, S.A. (NOM 1492), Atotonilco El Alto, Mexico
40% ABV
Patron is one of the first celebrity tequilas, bought in 1989 from Siete Leguas by the owner of Paul Mitchell, the hair product company. For better or worse itas stayed frozen in that time, never succumbing to diffusers like the rest of the industry did in the Aughts, no additives, made in small batches, and focused on making a smooth, easy drinking tequila. Time traveling to the drinking culture of the 90's is as easy as popping open a bottle of Patron Silver.
All of that is to say, Patron Anejo Sherry Cask is not steeped in the same traditional methods. It is a very contemporary take on tequila, especially the new found focus on barrel finishes. Except there is no finish here, the tequila spends an entire 2 years in ex-sherry casks! Loads of nutty sweet/savory and dried stone fruit with an underlying butterscotch-y slow cooked agave richness. While not typical for Patron, the gentleness of the base tequila allows a whole new palette of flavors to emerge.
Until a the end of 2021, it was a Duty Free exclusive, a highly sought out addition to Patron's lineup. Well, hunt no more!
