Bucklin Old Hill Ranch Cabernet Sauvignon 2019

    • While Bucklin might be known for their Zin, their Cabernet is not to be slept on.  The first grapes were planted in 1983 by a neighbor and the land returned to Bucklin 2004 once the lease was up.  That Ranch included six acres of Cabernet Sauvignon which is what's bottled here.  Being situated in the "banana belt" of Sonoma, where there's more heat and less precipitation, is perfect for growing Cab.  The original vines were planted on AXR rootstock, meaning that they are infected with phylloxera and their roots are compromised. The net effect is a very devigorated vine, producing low yields. The wines from this block tend towards austere and lean, harking back to Cabernets of yesteryear.  Full bodied with deep aromas of plum, currant, cedar, and oak barrel spice.
