Axe and the Oak Colorado Bourbon

Axe and the Oak Distillery in Colorado Springs, Colorado began as the passion project of five friends with a love of good whiskey who now have been making bourbon, rye, and moonshine for nearly a decade.  This is the flagship whiskey in their lineup, made from a high rye mashbill (21%) of whiskey made in Colorado from local grain and sourced whiskey from Indiana and aged for a minimum of two years in #4 char barrels.  It definitely doesn’t nose like a two-year-old bourbon, with burly barrel notes dominating.  Earthy and spicy with a hint of pine due to the high rye content.  Big bass notes of brown sugar and a nice, crisp alpine finish.  Balanced, approachable, and a dangerously easy sipper.
