ArteNOM Seleccion de 1146 "Baby Tears" Anejo Tequila
Tequileña (NOM-1146), Tequila, Mexico
The rich, dark, amber color immediately draws me in and I can’t wait to start sipping. It is darker than other Añejos that I enjoy (Tequila Ocho, El Tesoro , G4, Pasote to name a few). I don’t know how long this is aged in a barrel but I am wondering if it is pretty darn close to 3 years due to the dark, rich color. It’s not like an El Tesoro or Ocho Añejo that has a shorter barrel time of a little over a year. Side by side in the bottle with the extra añejo Tears of Llorona, it is almost as dark as Tears.
The nose is very nice and rich. I can still smell the agave but I get caramel, chocolate, and cinnamon on the nose. I also get hints of a little bit of citrus and some cherry. There is also some faint tobacco.
On the palate I can taste cooked agave, caramel and baking spice with some butterscotch. It then transitions into some pepper, hints of chocolate. As it lingers on my palate there is light vanilla and butter. The finish is warm, not hot, and nicely lingers. I am still tasting some chocolate, spice, and cinnamon. I also get some oak with this, but it is not strong and overpowering.
Overall it’s a beautiful expression. I absolutely love this añejo tequila. Would be great just to sip on by the fire pit or as an after dinner drink. Also a great one to drink with special people in your life. I don’t smoke cigars, but I can imagine it pairing well with a cigar.
